Ana Carbajal Barahona accepts the Collegiate Information & Visitor Services Association (CIVSA) STAR Award | article, DWC Intern Recognized at CIVSA Conference | DWC CPAs and Advisors | Colorado DWC wishes to congratulate audit intern Ana Carbajal Barahona for receiving the STAR Award at the recent Collegiate Information & Visitor Services Association (CIVSA) conference! The conference gathered student ambassadors and staff advisors to network and share ideas, best practices, and ways to help improve their institutions. Ana is an Admissions Office ambassador with Colorado Mesa University (CMU) and has committed to help others find their strength, passion, and support during their time at the University.

Ana led a session on how college admission offices can support the higher education aspirations of undocumented students. Her presentation, entitled “Undocumented Not Unheard,” shared her journey as a DACA-status individual and student. Ana’s presentation was so revered, and the topic of such importance, that the conference chairperson asked her to conduct a nationally presented webinar this spring as a catalyst to spark conversations among all colleges.

Ana’s presentation evoked profound emotions on a complex and often misunderstood political topic, earning her a STAR award nomination from fellow students at the conference. In the end, she emerged as one of the five outstanding student leaders honored with the STAR Award for their contributions.
